Love In Action

This adorable young lady is my niece Sarah.

She has been part of a project called “Love

In Action” for eight years in North Carolina.

The photo on the left is of Sarah when she

began volunteering for this meaningful project.

The photo on the right is Sarah now.

Please watch the video below and let Sarah inspire your family to send a message of LOVE & HOPE by making cards for as many of our FPC family as possible.  You can choose to only send to a certain age group but all of us are missing one another so why not share your love with as many as possible?

If your family lacks creative ideas, Pinterest can provide you with more ideas than you even want!  They have simple to elaborate ideas.

The point of this activity is to make contact with people that you love or that you feel may be lonely.  I hope your efforts bring you as much joy as your creations will bring to those that receive them.

“Love Your Neighbor” translates into the way that we forgive, the way we serve, the way we show patience, the way we show humility and the way we show grace. All of these things are under the umbrella of “Love Your Neighbor.” February is a month where we are reminded about loving others.  God’s message of love is not just for one day or one month.  Loving others as ourselves is something we need to do every single day.

Read Scripture together

 - Matthew 22:37-40

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

- Mark 12:31

The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Talk about Scripture together
  • Who is your neighbor?

  • Share together ways to show love to your neighbor.

  • What about these two scriptures is difficult to do?

Responsive Reading

From Matthew and Martin Luther King

Select one family member to be the Leader and all other family members are the People.

Leader: You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say unto you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

People: Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life, love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

Leader: If you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others?

People: We must develop the capacity to forgive. Those who are devoid of the power to forgive, are devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us, and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.

Leader: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

People: Love is the most durable power in the world. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.

Closing Prayer

Gracious and merciful God, you have called us to love our neighbors, and to love our enemies. You know how hard this is for us. Fill our hearts with your grace, so that we may release to the world the love you have given us. Help us illuminate the shadows with your love. Help us serve in the world by sharing your love, particularly with those in need. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
